WBSSU - Snowboard


So you want to be a snowboard instructor? You should! Here's why:


YES are proud to bring you the Whistler Blackcomb Snow School University Program (AKA: WBSSU). YES has been offering instructor courses in Whistler for over 25 years and together in partnership with Whistler Blackcomb snow school, we bring you this amazing 4 week internship, targeted to those students looking to work as a snowboard instructor!!

You will train towards the CASI Level 1 certification in the first four weeks of your arrival in Whistler and after successful completion of the exam, you could begin to live the dream of becoming a fully fledged Whistler Blackcomb Snowboard instructor for the entire season! 

Course length – full 2018/2019 winter season - actual arrival date into Whistler will likely be between 12th - 13th November with the likely official program start date on the 14th November - TBC. 


This training program prepares individuals for careers as a Snow School instructor. The program includes:

  • Snowboarding skills training in the CASI technique
  • 3 weeks' training from Level IV instructors (5 days per week)
  • Teaching skills training in the CASI methodology
  • Introduction to skills in teaching children
  • Basic Snow School operation training
  • Safety Training
  • Video analysis
  • CASI Level I Exams
  • Accommodation (4 weeks)

As you are pre-interviewed for a job, typically all candidates who successfully complete the 3 week training program, pass the Level I CSIA course and complete the Teaching Children’s Module will be offered a full-time instructor position by Whistler Blackcomb. You will start work immediately that the program finishes.
In order to be eligible for the program at the WB Snow School you MUST have a valid work permit to work in Canada. Please refer to this link for more details on the work permit you should apply for. It is very important that you apply for the IEC working holiday visa. The work permit application is up to each individual to apply for and manage yourself.
In order to be eligible for employment considerations after the completion of the program at the WB Snow School individuals must have a valid work permit to work in Canada.
If applicable, all successful candidates looking for employment opportunities will undergo a post Internship interview process for instructor positions with the WB Snow School.


Stage 1 - Contact YES at info@yesimprovement.com to set up the first stage pre-interview to make sure you meet all the requirements and we can get a feel for your goals for the season.

Stage 2 - Apply for your working holiday visa for Canada through IEC - if you already have a approved working visa you're in a great position!

Stage 3 - If successful in the pre-interview conducted by YES, you will make the short list and your resume (CV) will be submitted to Whistler Blackcomb.

Stage 4 - The official interview with Whistler Blackcomb will be held in August - actual date TBA. The interview will be a Skype interview.

Stage 5 - If successful you will receive an acceptance email inviting you to join the WBSSU program.


You will be fully embedded into the Whistler Blackcomb lifestyle. Accommodation for the program is offered by Whistler Blackcomb, in twin share rooms. The first 4 weeks are covered under the cost of the program. If you receive a formal job offer then you can stay in staff housing accommodations and the rental cost will be deducted from your wages each month by WB. It is probably the most affordable accommodation in Whistler. **Single supplements are possible, subject to availablity set out by WB - an upgrade charge would apply.

This season has been the best season of my life. The WBSSU program is an amazing way to get into the snow instructor industry. The coaching we received was first class and I am still super close with everyone in my group. I can't wait for next season! Staff housing is a great way to meet people from all over the world.
