So you want to be a ski instructor? You should! Here's why:

YES are proud to bring you the Whistler Blackcomb Snow School University Program (AKA: WBSSU). YES has been offering instructor courses in Whistler for over 25 years and together in partnership with Whistler Blackcomb snow school, we bring you this amazing 4 week internship, targeted to those students looking to work as a ski instructor in the no#1 Resort in North America!!

You will spend the first three weeks learing about the Whistler Blackcomb way of life, Ski Improvement and CSIA Level 1 preparation so that you're fully prepared for the exam in the forth and final week. Once you successfully pass the CSIA Level 1 exam you can begin to live the dream of becoming a fully fledged Whistler Blackcomb Ski instructor for the entire season!

Course length – full 2019/2020 winter season - actual arrival date into Whistler will likely be between 15th November with the likely official program start date on the 16th November.

This training program prepares individuals for careers as a Snow School instructor. The program includes:

  • Skiing skills training in the CSIA technique
  • 3 weeks training from Whistler Blackcomb Instructors (5 days per week)
  • Teaching skills training in the CSIA methodology
  • Introduction to skills in teaching children
  • Basic Snow School operation training
  • Safety Training
  • Level I Exam costs and membership
  • Teaching Children’s Module course
  • Accommodation at WB housing - twin share (4 weeks only)

Spaces are limited for this program and each participant must complete a skype interview process in order to be accepted into the WBSSU Internship.
As you are pre-interviewed for a job, typically all candidates who successfully complete the 3 week training program, pass the Level I CSIA course and complete the Teaching Children’s Module will be offered a full-time instructor position by Whistler Blackcomb. You will start work immediately that the program finishes.
In order to be eligible for the program at the WB Snow School you MUST have a valid work permit to work in Canada. Please refer to this link for more details on the work permit you should apply for. It is very important that you apply for the IEC working holiday visa. The work permit application is up to each individual to apply for and manage yourself.

Requirements – the competition is fierce so you need to make sure you meet all the requirements set by Whistler Blackcomb.

  • Candidates must have previous experience working with children or adults in a coaching or teaching environment.
  • Candidates must be at an intermediate level – able to link turns on blue runs

Stage 1 - Contact YES at to set up the first stage pre-interview to make sure you meet all the requirements and we can get a feel for your goals for the season.

Stage 2 - Apply for your working holiday visa for Canada through IEC - if you already have a approved working visa you're in a great position!

Stage 3 - If successful in the pre-interview conducted by YES, you will make the short list and your resume (CV) will be submitted to Whistler Blackcomb.

Stage 4 - The official interview with Whistler Blackcomb will be held in July/August - actual date TBA. The interview will be a Skype interview.

Stage 5 - If successful you will receive an acceptance email inviting you to join the WBSSU program.

You will be fully embedded into the Whistler Blackcomb lifestyle. Accommodation for the program is offered by WhistlerBlackcomb, in twin share rooms. The first 4 weeks are covered under the cost of the program. If you receive a formal job offer you can transfer to WB staff housing and the rental cost will be deducted from your wages each month by WB. It is probably the most affordable accommodation in Whistler. **Single supplements are possible, subject to availablity set out by WB - an upgrade charge would apply.

For more information about obtaining a Working Holiday Visa for Canada, visit the Canada International Experience Canada website. Depending on your nationality and or age there may be restrictions so please view the IEC link for more details.

This season has been the best season of my life. The WBSSU program is an amazing way to get into the snow instructor industry. The coaching we received was first class and I am still super close with everyone in my group. I can't wait for next season! Staff housing is a great way to meet people from all over the world. Thanks YES!
